About Taste of Lake Street
Rotary Taste of Lake Street for Minneapolis Hunger Relief is a food, wine and beer sampling event, featuring "tastes" from 40 restaurants, live music by local artists, games, raffle, a silent auction and other prizes. It will take place at:

This is the 2nd Annual Taste of Lake Street event. It is organized by the five Minneapolis Rotary clubs and Minneapolis Rotaract in conjunction with the Midtown Global Market. Rotary International is the world's first and one of the largest humanitarian service organizations, whose motto is Service Above Self.
All event proceeds go to food shelves in Minneapolis at a time when demand is especially high. Last year's event netted $38,000 for hunger relief and was distributed to 12 Minneapolis hunger organizations.
A Food Drive will supplement funds raised by the event. Attendees who bring non-perishable food donations will be eligible for special door prize drawings.
The Raffle offers the chance to win fabulous prizes for only $5 a ticket. Included are an Orlando vacation ($3,400 value), one year of fine dining at a different restaurant each month ($800 value) and a Duluth family weekend ($300 value). A Silent Auction of wine bouquets with 12 bottles of fine wines each will also take place.
About Hunger in Our Community
Hunger is chronic and present throughout Minnesota - not only in the city, but also in suburbs and rural communities. Food shelves provide the first line of defense against hunger, delivering instant, vital aid to residents in need of assistance.
According to Hunger Solutions Minnesota:
• One in 17 Minnesotans rely upon local food shelves to help feed their families.
• In 2008, there were 2 million visits and 47 million pounds of food distributed at Minnesota's 300 food shelves.
• There has been a 62 percent increase in food shelf visits since 2000.
Food shelves and other nonprofit organizations are seeing increased need for services, while at the same time addressing funding reductions due to the difficult economy.
Attendees of Taste of Lake Street for Minneapolis Hunger Relief are directly helping nourish the lives of thousands of Minneapolis residents. All proceeds from the event will be distributed by participating Minneapolis Rotary and Rotaract Clubs to select Minneapolis food shelves. |
